Frequently Asked Questions
Why is it important to use a licensed private investigator?
In Australia, private investigators are licensed by the appropriate State Authority. To hold a private investigator's license, an investigator must be appropriately trained and submit to a criminal history check. At Ozpeopletrace, we use only licensed private investigators trained to find someone in Australia. Contact us if you'd like to check our investigator's license numbers.
I don't live in Australia. Can you still do an Australian people search for me?
Ozpeopletrace have found people in Australia for clients world-wide. We are specialist Australian people finders with the skill, expertise, and training to find the person you are looking for. We're very proud of our consistently high success rate.
Australia is a big country. How do you find people Australia-wide?
Our investigators find people all over Australia using specialised databases that are not available to the general public. We also use data from federal and state government records plus other public access records. Other techniques and resources may also be used by our specially trained private investigators during an investigation. We use only legal and ethical methods to find people in Australia. Plus, we know the clues to look for!
How long will it take OZpeopletrace to find my missing person?
Depending on the complexity of the search and the amount of information provided by the client, an Australian people search normally takes 10-15 working days to complete, although some difficult cases take longer. If you have an urgent need to find a person in Australia, we have a Priority search facility available. Contact us for more information.
How much will it cost for OZpeopletrace to find my missing person?
An Australia people search can often be completed for $220 to $330, however, if the information provided is limited or incorrect, or a case is more complex, a search can cost more. Sometimes we need to access specialised sources of data and this can be expensive. Your Ozpeopletrace case manager will give you a firm quote, so you know exactly what your search will cost. We ask for pre-payment before any investigation begins. We ask for pre-payment before any investigation begins. My quote may ask me to pay a retainer to find people in Australia. Why is this?
Sometimes we suggest to a client that Ozpeopletrace be placed on a retainer, instead of providing a quote. We suggest this in cases where: only fragments of information are available, such as a maiden name only; if the spelling of names is uncertain, or the information is old. This enables the client to best control the amount of money spent on the search. All initial costs and disbursements will be deducted from the retainer. Once those funds are depleted we will have a better idea of what is required to complete the case. If the case proves less difficult than expected, unused portions of the retainer will be reimbursed.
Can't I just find my missing person myself, instead of paying OZpeopletrace to do it?
Yes you can, but you won't have access to the resources we use, or have the knowledge and experience we have of finding people in Australia. An Australian people finder can complete the search much more quickly and, most likely, at a lower cost, with a much greater chance of success. See our article on how to find someone in Australia.
My case is sensitive. Will you do a confidential search and give the results solely to me?
When we find someone in Australia, we use tact and discretion, and the results are generally provided only to our client. We do, however, always reserve the right to inform the person being sought and ask whether they want their whereabouts revealed to you. This applies if we become aware of any restraining orders being in place, or we have reasons to believe that disclosing a person's whereabouts may put them at risk. This is also the case where we have to comply with the regulations of the Privacy Act 1988.
